June 2017 Happenings

I celebrated the end of the school year by running Relay Iowa for the 4th year the first weekend of the month.  This year was really anxiety causing as we ran with the least number of people I've ever run it with and the weather was almost as hot as last year.  But once again, we helped each other get through it, worked as a team and had a wonderful time.  I am most proud because I ran the most I've ever run it. . . 34 miles!:)  I NEVER would've thought I could run that far in a weekend!  I know I said this year would be my last, but I'm just not sure about that anymore. . .

Lanie and I have been going down to Gigi's Playhouse in Des Moines on Wednesday mornings to go to a yoga and a science class.  This week was about volcanoes.  It's definitely worth the drive down for us when they have 2 classes back to back.  I just really wish we lived closer:(

Successfully completed one of our Summer Bucket List items by bike riding 6 miles (the farthest we've ever ridden together) on the Summerset Trail and then treating ourselves to a yummy restaurant in Carlisle.  Our goal is 10 miles by the end of the summer, but I just don't know if our butts can take it LOL!

Happy Father's Day to all the wonderful Dads in our lives, especially Matthew and my dad.  We grilled at Mom and Dad's on Father's Day and just got to relax and enjoy the beautiful weather together.

Lanie got to be part of a group of kids that were video taped at the Nevada Public Library for a series on TV about reading that will be on IPTV next summer.  I can't wait to see how it turns out:)

We had our first camping trip of the season at Spring Lake near Jefferson, Iowa the last weekend in June.  Matthew set up Lanie's new "tight rope"and the kids seemed to really enjoy it.  Carter brought Seth and the two of them had a good time fishing and walking around independently.  We played in the big open field, swam, went paddle boating and skating both Friday and Saturday night.  It was a nice, relaxing weekend with friends.

Carter had an awesome baseball season!  He hit many balls, threw a lot of outs from 3rd base to 1st base, and at the end of the season did quite a bit of pitching.  His pitching was super accurate and most times he threw 3 outs in a row!  Super proud of his growth and love watching him play:)
