April Happenings

Carter wrote a poem called "Family is Forever and Always" and won first place is the Boone-Story Writing contest.  He was honored at a celebration, given a certificate by the chairperson of the contest, given lots of praise from the honorary writer from Minnesota, Buck Wilder, and also a $10 gift certificate.

Both Carter and Lanie have recently taken an interest in skating, Lanie with her new rollerskates bought from birthday money from Aunt Andrea, and Carter in rollerblades from a Christmas gift a few years ago.  I love seeing them outside in the sun, listening to music, and being so active:)

Lanie's cousin Kaleigh, sent her Flat Twin to our aunt and uncle in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and got it back.  Thanks Aunt Bonnie, both girls were super excited to read your letter.

Lanie had a Girl Scout "Slumber Party" to celebrate a great year.  The girls wore pajamas and brought a pillow and stuffed animal. Lots of moms helped make the night wonderful for the group of girls with activities including; finger painting, coffee filter crafting, making lip gloss, campfire story, playing the game Island, and a movie.  One of the moms taught the girls how to make a cheeseburger and french fries cupcake!  It was SO yummy!

Lanie crossed over the bridge to change from being a Daisy girl scout to a Brownie.  The end of year celebration with all the girl scouts was very nice and included a yummy family potluck.

We've been spending a lot of time at the baseball field these last few weeks, unfortunately lots of games and practices have gotten cancelled because of the crazy un-spring-like weather we've been having.  It's been fun practicing pitching and batting down at the open field by our house 1 on 1 with Carter too.
Daddy got to go with Carter and Lanie on the Iowa State University Art on Campus field trip on Tuesday.  The weather was just beautiful for a day outside!

Lanie presented her Heart-Healthy Choice of Dance to her 1st and 2nd grade class with the help of her associate.  She helped me make the poster including a picture of herself before her dance recital a couple of years ago and brought in her tap shoes to show everyone.  Mrs. Olson was very pleased with how clear she sounded when she presented!!
