April 2020 Happenings

We've continued game night nearly once a week.  If we don't hike on Sundays then we play that night and on Thursdays if we eat at mom's.  This night brought back so many memories playing Monopoly with Shannon when we were kids.

So much great hiking going on this month.  We started the month about an hour east at Springbrook State Park and then stopped by a disc golf course on the way home.  Then we traveled northwest about an hour to Dolliver State Park.  The last weekend we stayed close in Story County at Christensen Forest Preserve.  I'm absolutely amazed by all the beautiful places to hike and see in Iowa.  Hoping this becomes a regular part of our camping time too.

I turned 40 during quarantine, which wasn't such a bad thing to prevent a surprise birthday party.  Shannon planned a birthday parade for me and I got to see lots of family, friends, coworkers, and students that I have taught.  Matthew buys the best presents. . . I got a wine rack, Untamed by Glennon Doyle,  and new hiking shoes.  I got to spend Friday night with some of the friends I adore playing virtual games.  Totally different experience playing online than in person, but we are getting used to it. . .

Happy 14th birthday, Lanie Nicole!  This one will be one to remember for a long time.  We had a birthday parade at 10:30 in the morning and so many wonderful friends and family came out to see you.  Some decorated their cards, threw candy or snacks, and sent you a birthday card.  Mommy baked a chocolate cake for supper, but forgot the candles:(  We sang anyway and you didn't seem to mind and I apologized over and over.  Lanie got hospital, ER, and surgery little people type figurines to play with, to reenact Grey's Anatomy.
