July 2018 Happenings

Lanie and I walked in the 4th of July Parade with the Girl Scouts.  Kaleigh and Grandma Barb watched from the side and then we all went to the Legion for chicken and noodles for lunch.

Lanie had another amazing week at Sunnyside Camp.  She performed in the talent show on the last day and had lots of hugs to say goodbye.  Since then, she's asked many times when she gets to go back and 1 time even had tears as she talked about how much she misses it.

Summer Bucket List:  Des Moines Farmer's Market
It was a beautiful, cool morning when we decided to go to the Farmer's Market.  Lanie and Kaleigh got their treat right when we walked in, watermelon slushies.  Carter chose a huge pickle with dip.  We also tasted and shared; pizza, eggs and mac and cheese, corn, pastries, and samosas.  We brought home a cactus, cantaloupe, monster cookie butter, peaches and a kohlrabi.

Summer Bucket List:  Go Camping
Jeremy and Aiden invited us to go camping at Jester Park cabins.  The cabins were beautiful pine inside with NO internet!  Even though we could only stay 1 night we used it well as we  played on the outdoor playscape, saw elk and bison, hiked, played yard jenga, ultimate frisbee, layed in a hammock, roasted smores and even relaxed  a little.  Matthew and I would love to go back again (and visit other campgrounds) and spend 2 nights.

Lauren had her 9th birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese's.  The kids never tired of the games and Lanie loved the musical show.

Lanie learned to ride a 2 wheel bike all by herself this month!  It's been about a year since we took a bike apart to make a balance bike for her.  I knew she was ready when she could balance going down the hill from our driveway.  I got some final tips from Tracie (ChildServe PT) and took 1 more practice (using a robe belt around her waist) and the rest is history.  We went on our first family bike ride all on our own bikes on about a 2 mile trail in Ames.  Then we celebrated both Lanie's accomplishment and Carter's accomplishment of completing (and excelling at) Driver's Ed at Orange Leaf.

Had a wonderful night with all these lovely ladies.  Man, did we feel like women!
