October 2017 Happenings

Matthew wanted to celebrate his 45th birthday low-key and with the family.  He  picked to go to Spaghetti Works in Des Moines and then to an Iowa Wild hockey game.  I think he had a good night and it was nice to be with the kids.

The next day we finally got a decent Saturday to go to Center Grove Apple Orchard.  Jeremy and Aiden joined us.  The apple orchard continues to add more and new things to it.  We even got to eat some of the yummy goodies they were selling; fudge, apple slushie, apple cider, and kettle corn.

This was new!  Good leg work out!
Kaleigh and Colyn's 7th grade Literacy group project was to create a Eutopia community and to share at a fair in the gym one night after school.  Kaleigh's community even won 1st place! Great authentic project!

The kids wanted to have an end of 1st Quarter/ Halloween slumber party and invite 2 friends each over.  We had pizza, popcorn, and watched Kindergarten Cop altogether before the adults went to bed and hoped the kids would too eventually.  Nice group of kids and there was no fighting:)

Lanie's Girl Scout Fall Event was Living History Farms this year.  It was pretty chilly but we survived:)  We ate a sack supper and then walked around to the different town places to get candy.  We got to ride on a horse-drawn wagon and listened to some great storytellers in the barn.  It was fun being just the 2 of us.

This might be the last year we carve pumpkins.  Kids were not very into it, but it DID get done:)  Lanie was a police officer, Kaleigh a banana, and Carter borrowed Grandma's costume at the last minute (and wore it for about 5 minutes) of doctor.

Lanie came over to the elementary school for 6th grade chorus to perform for the Preschool classes.  Her para thought to take some pictures and sent them to me.  I like this one where Lanie gets to sit by Camlyn.
