August Happenings

We tried to squeeze out as much time together and fun as possible in the beginning of August.  School started extra early this year, as teachers went back the 7th and kids the 13th.  The kids invited some friends to go with us to Pump it Up and then the very next day some friends invited us to go to the Playground in Ankeny.  Both places kept the kids entertained for a couple hours, but I can definitely see the end is near for this kind of place for my kiddos.  Its very sad as doors begin to close on the things the kids did when they were young, I know windows are opening too.

We asked the staff at Pump it Up for the nearest park to have a picnic at and they sent us to one only a few blocks away called Walker Johnson Park.  It was awesome!  The boys loved watching the teenagers skateboard and Lanie and I explored the playground and the path around the small pond.  Definitely going back here next summer!

Matthew and I enjoyed a date night at the Iowa State Fair.  We walked around to see lots of art and enjoyed delicious tenderloins and Summer Shandy.  By chance, we text Allison just to see if she'd be there for the same concert as us and she was!  We screamed and head banged to Slaughter together and it was great catching up and laughing with her too:)

Carter was invited to a friend's birthday party on a Friday night and Lanie got to invite a couple girl friends over to play.  First they made brownies for snack and then went upstairs to put on make up:)  The girls enjoyed painting, play-doh, Fibber (I got to play this game with them), house and babies, Barbies, swinging...man they were busy!  The best part, none of them asked to turn on the TV:)
Gotta love 3 day weekends!  It means, Matthew can take a whole day off from studying and I from cleaning and working to just be with the kids.  Saturday we took our annual trip to Ledges.  It was a beautiful day and we were hoping to get in a bike ride and hike but because of the amount of rain we'd been having the bike ride didn't work.  The kids still loved playing in the (now high) water over the bridges and walking in the creeks.  We chased Lanie up a path and took this selfie when we got her stop for a second.  Of course, couldn't break our routine stop at Dairy Queen after every Ledges trip for icecream.

1st day of school 2014 - 2015 Lanie in 3rd grade, Carter in 5th grade, and my 13th year teaching.  Where does the time go!
Thanks for coming over Grandma to send us on our way to our first day of school!  A great way to start the school year:)
