As always, January started off by celebrating Carter's birthday. I can't believe my baby is 10! Sometimes I look at him and totally see the same baby that I brought into this world 10 years ago and then other times I see such a different little person. Here are some of his favorites and things about him that I wish I would have written down all these years and didn't...
Height: 5 foot 1 inch
Shoe Size: 8- 9 (same as his mama)
Weight: 102
Favorite Sport: football
Favorite thing to do in free time: play on kindle or wii
Favorite Book/Series: The Extraordinary Adventures of Ordinary Boy
Favorite TV Show: Storage Wars
Favorite Movie: Grown Ups
Favorite food: Daddy's Hamburger with maple syrup-glazed bacon
Favorite subject in school: Math
Favorite Song/ Singer/ Music: Imagine Dragons
What he wants to be when he grows up: Football player or coach
I appreciate how much Carter is trying to be his own person. Although this sometimes drives Matthew and I crazy, I love how he stands up for what he believes in and is not afraid to "dance to the tune of his own music":) He is still the sweetest kid I know around Lanie and other children younger than he is. I love our time together playing board games, reading a chapter book before bed, or just hanging out watching a movie. Carter is becoming much more responsible and respectful every day. I always do a double-take when he says to me, "Mom, can I take anything for you?" when we're walking out the door to go somewhere.
Carter once again wanted to have a sleep over with friends to celebrate his birthday. This time we decided to have the family birthday party from 3 -5 and the friend party from 5pm - 9am. It worked well and allowed him to have an extended birthday party without so many people in the house at once. His theme this year was Minnesota Vikings and he told me I could plan games for the family party but just let them do their own thing at the friend party. We played football charades, football toss (with fruit snacks), and painted our favorite team football stripes on our faces.
Finally remembered to get the family picture:)
Cousins
Although a lot of time was spent on screens the boys did play hide and seek and a couple rounds of Headbandz with me. Later on in the night we watched "Remember the Titans" while munching on popcorn. The kids and I spent a night at Mindy's on a Friday night in January for some much needed girl time. We ate out at a Mexican restaurant and then stayed in the rest of the night. The kids made lanterns and then later, Mindy and I enjoyed wine and made a Valentine's door hanger craft. The next day we went for lunch at Noodles and then on to the Civic Center for an event. Lots of laughs and enjoying being together:)
Kaleigh and Colyn had their 9th birthday party this month too. They had a sleep over and then went Glow Bowling.
Matthew and I spent our Christmas money from our parents on a new TV for the upstairs living room. This room is my absolute favorite room in the house because of the big windows, open space, and fire place. It just doesn't get used enough and my hope was that this would help. Matthew set up the wii too so we now have a toy-free living room downstairs. It has helped so far, we have been using it a lot more and enjoying the calm/ quiet downstairs.
